“You’re right, honey …”
We all love hearing it! Why is being RIGHT such a big deal? No matter which way you cut, slice or dice it, there’s a right way when it comes to wrongs. Find out more in this episode, as Leah tackles the next section of Marriage Secrets, pgs. 28-30.
Tune in for the first 6 minutes to hear the scoop in her own words, beginning right away at timecode 0:15!
Leah’s Points to Ponder:
- Following our Mesorah (tradition) empowers, validates, and actualizes us as women.
- Choosing our Mesorah means letting go of well-worn habits in favor of those with a 3,000-year-old track record of success.
Viewer Questions:
Tammy: Who do you think holds the most responsibility for spreading this mesorah? Parents, teachers, rabbis…? Who would make the most impact?
Leah: I asked a Rabbi how best to spread it and he said you have to do everything you can to spread it in whatever measure you can. Buy the book and start a learning group or ask a Rebbetzin to teach from it. The book has instructions for all this. R’ Shmuel Kamenetsky said peace in the world starts in your home. So start there and it will spread.
Q: Can you have sholom bayis if you are focused on a successful career?
Leah: You can be a surgeon or a CEO or have a lot of ambition- that’s great! But if your career takes precedence over your relationships, it can have a devastating impact on your life. What do you want to see looking back on your life in your 90s? Balance is crucial and takes rabbinical guidance and planning and conscious effort.
Elisheva: I’m a lawyer who bosses people around all day. When I get home it’s hard to take off my hat and let my husband be my equal. What are some good tips so I don’t hurt my marriage?
Leah: Try to get a buy-in from your family on things that need to be accomplished. Tune in at timecode 16:10 for Leah’s explanation of this concept. Also, remember that all blessing in your home (including your paycheck) comes from G-d through your husband. He is the channel for all of it. This is hard to hear but it’s a spiritual reality. Let that knowledge inform your actions, and you will see your blessings increase manifold.
Tova asks: How do you connect to tradition from so many years ago? It feels so removed from today and it’s hard to connect to it.
Leah: Sometimes we have blockages from past trauma and negative associations that prevent us from feeling connected to spiritual things. It will take introspection — try to connect first to physical things with a spiritual component, like making brachos (blessings) on a food you love. Like chocolate!
