Sydney’s issue, although quite common, it is a topic most women find difficult to discuss. Both Sydney and her husband were baalei teshuva since even before they met. But now, her husband feels that the “intense” life of an observant Jew is too much for him. He isn’t interested in keeping many of the basic mitzvos (Torah and Rabbinic Commandments).
Sydney’s biggest struggle is trying to figure out what her role as a wife is and how to remain true to herself, without distancing herself from her husband. She is grateful that her husband is a “mentch” (person of integrity and honor) and she values that they are able to talk deeply about life and even about her struggles. However, her husband’s views on Orthodoxy as “tough” makes it hard for her to have a truly meaningful connection with him.
Listen as Leah offers Sydney a wealth of advice that isn’t only beneficial to her situation, but can be used by any wife experiencing a struggle in her relationship with her husband. From getting a Rav, Rebbetzin, or close confidant, to planning ahead and introspecting on the areas of tension, a wife can work towards improving her situation as well as having the support she needs to get through the hard times. And of course as in all shows, the main message here was – putting shalom bayis (marital peace) first a woman will see so much blessings in her life. Watch this deep, but insightful show that is a must-see!
