What are some common marriage misconceptions?

Women who have been immersed in social media have warped expectations, so there are many misconceptions. Awareness of this is key.

The expectations we come into marriage with are a recipe for being miserable our entire life. We come with perceptions of what our father did and we’re so busy looking for these traits in our husband, we miss the good he brings.

How should women handle conflicts in marriage?

There’s the soccer field and the sidelines- most of life is on the soccer field. Communication needs to happen on the sidelines. Anything we try to resolve on the soccer field will backfire and come out wrong.

To keep closeness and a safe home, solve problems out of the moment. Realize we’re on the soccer field, freeze and introspect how to say it in a way he’ll hear it. Come up with solutions and bring them to him.

What advice would you give to a woman who is feeling disconnected from her husband?

Introspect if it’s something he’s doing or something we’re doing that’s making us feel disconnected. Look at our childhood and see if we’re blocking the connection. Maybe it’s logistics and there simply isn’t enough time to recharge together. Maybe it’s something simple like overlooking listening to him. Ask him questions to encourage him to open up as this is the number one way to get closer.

What are three top tips a woman can do to improve her marriage today?

Thank your husband ten times more than you already are.

Don’t interrupt your husband.

Make sure your appreciation bucket is full.

Still feel like he just doesn’t get it? Leah tackles those little marriage frustrations that can quietly build up—and what we can do differently.
